Your home should be a refuge from the world, which is why you protect it with homeowners insurance. Nowhere in your home should be more peaceful and relaxing than a bedroom. Here are a few tips to ensure your sleeping quarters are a sanctuary.

Eliminate clutter

Having a chaotic, overstuffed room can lead to stress, which makes it harder to sleep. Try and eliminate piles of clothing or unneeded furniture to make a clear, unobstructed space.

Decorate with a cooling color palette

Stick to cozy whites, creams, and other cool and soft shades. Avoid bold primary colors that lend excitement to a room, unless using them as an accent.

Vary textures

It makes sense to opt for total softness in your bedroom, but layering textures of plush pillows and blankets will make your bed feel irresistibly relaxing.

Add a sitting area

Bedrooms aren't always just for sleeping—they can be areas for other forms of relaxation like reading, drinking tea or watching TV. A sitting area can make sure you have a quiet place to yourself without having to rumple your sheets.

Use dimmable, opaque lighting

When designing the lighting of a bedroom, keep in mind that no one likes to flip on a switch and have a room be blindingly bright. Focus on dimmable lighting with opaque shades, as well as less bright forms of lighting being within reach if you want to read in bed.
