How to avoid a wildlife collision [Video]

Hello, and welcome back!

As beautiful as animals can be, they pose a serious driving hazard when they find their way into a roadway. While their crossings can be unpredictable, there are a few measures you can take to avoid a collision.

Most crashes involving animals take place during autumn and winter. When you take to the road during these darker seasons, we recommend using your high-beam headlights if there is no oncoming traffic. When you spot an animal, slow down, move over or honk the horn to scare it away.

If a collision is unavoidable, apply the brakes firmly and remain in your lane.  Swerving to avoid an animal can often cause a more serious crash or result in drivers losing control of vehicles.
