IBC releases new road safety commercial featuring CWHL hockey player Kelly Terry

February 11th, 2015 by admin

In a previous post, we discussed how the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and the CWHL are teaming up to promote road safety to Canadians. Now in the IBC's latest road safety commercial, Kelly Terry, forward for the Toronto Furies, is stressing the importance of driving according to weather conditions.

During the public awareness and safety commercial, Terry says: "Acceleration, tight manoeuvres, stopping. They take the right skills and equipment to master."

Through exercising caution in light of weather conditions and making sure your car has the right equipment, you protect yourself, passengers and other motorists on the road.

CWHL commissioner Brenda Andress believes the partnership with the IBC and her league has been "outstanding," adding "Their sponsorship support on its own has made a tremendous impact on our league […] with such powerful safety messages, it has taken our league's profile to a whole new level."

Ralph Palumbo, Vice-President, Ontario, IBC, hopes that the ad campaign allows his agency to educate a broader audience about the importance of road safety.

As we've discussed previously, it is vital to practice winter driving tips to reduce risk. These include:

  • Checking that your tires have adequate tread and air pressure
  • Making sure you have at least a half tank of gas during the winter season
  • Clearing snow and ice off your vehicle
  • Always driving with your headlights on
  • When road conditions worsen, adjusting your speed and following distance appropriately
